I am not only Vicar of St Martin's, Welton, but also responsible for Children and Young People's work in the larger team.
In this section you will find ideas for children and young people's talks, developed through Assemblies and church services from a number of people working in this area.
Remembrance Day
This is in two parts. The first is the main script. The second is the 'letter' to Reggie's new owner. I suggest putting this in an envelope addressed 'To Reggie's New Owner' and opening it in front of the children at the appropriate point. The files can be downloaded from here and here.
Co-operation
This interactive story, of the eighteenth camel, lends itself to a variety of topics. Co-operation, creative problem solving, or even being the right person (camel) at the right time. The file can be downloaded here.
This assembly was developed for a community secondary school. A three minute video about training sheepdogs is used to talk about working together. The video can be found here on YouTube and the talk can be downloaded here.
Harmony/Unity
This was designed for a secondary school assembly. The talk starts with a three minute clip from 'The Doctor's Daughter,' an episode from the David Tennant Doctor Who series. The relevant scene might be obtainable from YouTube if you don't have access to the DVD. The talk itself can be downloaded here.
Confidence and Being Special
Several ideas for illustrating this theme with younger children. Download the resource here.
Another assembly illustrating that we are all special. This requires a teddy bear or other stuffed toy missing an eye. Please find such a toy rather than mutilating one! Assembly here.
Showing Love
An assembly or talk for younger children, available here.
Christmas
An assembly exploring the theme of waiting for Christmas, as well as the idea of having different purposes/gifts. Available here.
A short funny sketch, requiring two people, with a challenge for the listeners at the end. Download here.
Using the TARDIS from Doctor Who to illustrate the concept of God being born into the small body of a baby. You will need either a picture or a model of the TARDIS. Download here.
A sketch which uses a number of children to illustrate a story about a farmer and a flock of wild geese. This has been written with two roles, a narrator and the farmer, but one person could do both. Download here.
Candlemas
An assembly for the presentation of Jesus in the Temple available here.
A drama of Anna and Simeon in the Temple available here.
Self Awareness
An outline of an assembly based on self awareness and helping others, available here.
Lent
An assembly for helping children to think about Lent, available here.
Humility
An assembly for secondary school, using a short clip from the Doctor Who episode 'Midnight.' On the DVD it shows as 'Chapter Eight: Think About It' and I suggest stopping the clip just after it is suggested that the Doctor also be thrown out of the airlock. The talk can be downloaded here.
All Saints/All Souls Day
An assembly for primary school, helping children to think about the Christian background to Halloween. Includes the lighting of a candle and time to think of the death of loved ones. Available here.
Harvest
A short sketch, requiring two people and a number of willing children. It's based on Jesus' parable of the 'Wheat and the Weeds.' Available here.
